Insulation for Metal Roof Attics
Metal blown-in insulation is an excellent choice, but it can be noisy if the assembly is not properly insulated. Good insulation reduces noise and keeps the sun’s heat from passing straight through to the living space below, delivering year-round comfort and lower utility bills.
The right insulation also limits condensation risk and prevents moisture problems in joists, studs, or drywall. It’s one of the best investments you can make in a new construction or when re-roofing your existing metal building.
Fiberglass batt or blanket insulation is inexpensive and comes in a range of R-values to match the climate. It can be fitted between joists or studs, but it’s best used in open areas without many obstructions. In vaulted ceilings, a closed-cell spray foam is the most effective way to provide R-value and an air seal when you can’t count on attic ventilation.
Rigid foam board is another option when you can’t rely on attic ventilation. It creates a thermal break and effectively insulates. However, its application requires careful attention to details such as fastener length and underlayments and drying paths. A pro installer is recommended.
